Hello to everyone.

I'm Iranian. Iranian culture is so interesting. There are many festivals and celebrations which shows the happiness of Iranians. For the first part I want to inform you about nowruz:

Now means new and the word ruz means day, so nowruz means starting a new day and it is the Celebration of the start of spring ("Rejuvenation"). Nowruz is a 12 day period. In that 12 days as a sign of the past 12 months, all Iranian families gather around and visit each other. It is the best time to remember good memories and experience the feeling of Love. In nowruz all families talk about the last year and the things they are looking forward in the next year. There are many other things Iranians do for nowruz like khane tekani (cleaning the house) and haji firooz, a person who makes his face black and wears a red dress, walks around the streets and entertains people by singing a special song and dance. We also prepare a special tablecloth that is called sofreye haftsin. Sofre (tablecloth), haft (seven), sin (the letter of S[س]). In this tradition we put 7 different beans on our table as a sign of thanking nature for giving humans all we need. This picture shows all parts of sofreye haft sin.

1. sib: Sib means apple that shows health.

2. senjed: It is service and symbolizing love.

3. samanu: It is sweet pudding made from wheat germ-symbolizing affluence.

4. sir: It is garlic-symbolizing medicine.

5. sabzeh: It is grass and symbolizing rebirth.

6. somaq:  It is sumac-symbolizing (the color of) sunrise.

7. serkeh: It is vinegar-symbolizing old-age and patience.

In our first discussion we investigated all the forums with MS.Abedi. We figured out that our outcomes should consist of a power point, word art, booklet, blog and discussion in forum. While this process we learned some grammatical points, and also our vocabulary improved.

For the next session, we should choose a monument we want to go and take a photograph with it. In addition, we have to write an introduction in the forum and choose a name for our group.

We think that Azadi tower is suitable because it’s an important place, and it’s the identity of Tehran, the capital of Iran.

Each time that we discuss with each other we should write a report about the result of that meeting. This was a report of Thursday, 7 November.
